The Book of Exodus

Why Study Exodus in the Bible?

The story of Exodus is often remembered for the plagues, the parting of the Red Sea, and Israel’s dramatic rescue from Egypt. But Exodus is about more than what God set His people free from. It’s about what He set them free for.

As we walk through the book of Exodus, we’ll discover what this ancient story teaches us about freedom in Christ, our identity, and God’s purpose for our lives today. Because God’s rescue has always had a purpose. He doesn’t just set us free from what holds us back. He sets us free to become who He created us to be, for the sake of the world He loves.

You were set free for a reason.

EXODUS: A 2-Part Sermon Series

We’ll help break down sermons in this extended series in two parts as we journey through Exodus. You’ll find the breakdown of each section below. You can find sermon playlists for each section at the bottom of this page.

Part 1: Set Free (Chapters 1-18)

October 18 – November 29, 2026

A burning bush, ten plagues, crossing the sea on dry ground. Many know the famous stories of Moses and the book of Exodus, but what do they mean for our lives today?

Exodus reveals God as Savior and shows us what true freedom looks like. As we journey from Egypt to the wilderness, we’ll discover what God sets us free from and what it means to live as people who are chosen, rescued, and free.

Rescue is real. You were set free for a reason.

Part 2: (Chapters 19-34)

May 2 – May 30, 2027

You’ve been set free. Now what?

The second half of Exodus reveals that God didn’t just rescue His people from slavery. He set them free for a purpose. As Israel discovers what it means to live as God’s people, we’ll explore what true freedom looks like, how God forms our identity and purpose, and what it means to live on mission with Him.

God doesn’t just set us free from something. He sets us free for something.

Subscribe to the Whining in the Wilderness Podcast

Whining in the Wilderness is a Christian podcast from Grace Church exploring the book of Exodus, faith, freedom, and what it looks like to follow Jesus in everyday life. Each week, our staff panel goes beyond the Sunday sermon with honest conversation, biblical insight, the ideas that didn’t make the message, and practical questions about how ancient stories of Moses, rescue, wilderness, and trust still shape our lives today.

Through Grace Church’s Exodus series, Set Free, we’re asking what God is freeing us from, what true freedom actually means, and how rescued people learn to live differently. Expect real stories, thoughtful questions, plenty of laughter, and the occasional legitimate reason to whine.
