Overflow Shelter

Overflow Shelter

There is an urgent need for people to volunteer to serve Erie's homeless population during the bitter cold winter months. St. John's Lutheran Church has agreed to host if another church will support it with staff. Grace Church's dates are Wednesday, December 7 through Tuesday, December 20.

Who we are:  The overflow shelter project was launched in November 2012 because the shelters funded by Erie County were regularly filled to capacity in the winter months. Local city churches host a mobile shelter for two weeks each with the help of volunteers. Grace Church hosting is hosting the Overflow Shelter at St. John's Lutheran Church from Dec 7th to Dec 21st from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

What we do: You will have the opportunity to offer warmth, food and the love of God to desperate people. You will be meeting their physical needs, share your faith, and prevent them from dying on the street due to freezing weather.

How you can help: There is an urgent need for people to volunteer to serve Erie's homeless population during the bitter cold winter months. We need volunteers to be there to help with sign-ins, provide hot beverages and friendly faces to greet them. St. John's Lutheran Church has agreed to host if another church will support it with staff. Grace Church's dates are Wednesday, December 7 through Tuesday, December 20.

There are 3 shifts of 4 hours each:

7 pm to 11 pm:  Staff needed (5) including someone to run computer input.
11 pm to 3 am: Staff needed (3)
3 am to 7 am: Staff needed (3)
