Weekend Sermon: Moses and the Bulrushes
Grace Staff Al Detter on February 24, 2009
Download a print copy of the sermon here. A life is a terrible thing to waste. The most effective way to waste it is to live for yourself and miss the purpose God had in mind for you when He brought you into the world.
Weekend Sermon: Samson and Delilah
Grace Staff Al Detter on February 17, 2009
Here is the sermon text from this weekend: SAMSONANDDELILAH.pdf. Samson is so much like many of the religious and political leaders of today. Potential. Ability. Charisma. Fame. But character flaws brings them down.
Hey, Remember that Time, When God Sold Our Building?
Grace Staff Al Detter on February 11, 2009
Most of us live so much in the present and future that we have poor memories.
The anniversary of the sale of our 38th Street property never caught my attention and I pass the facility every day. Yesterday I was struck with the fact that it’s really sold! Now longer a worry except for the well-being of ReaLife Church who occupies it.
There was a time when I wondered, “Would the place ever sell?” For over 3 years, the church for sale was like a dressed up lady with nary a date to the party.
God has been so good to Grace. He has shown His mighty hand time and again. I’m sure He wants us to reflect on His dealings with us and be refreshed by His past visitations. They form such a great platform for His visitations to come in the future.
May we have good memories with a spirit of gratitude for all that God has done. I just know He enjoys that!
Weekend Sermon: Heroes and Villains (Joseph & His Brothers)

Genesis 37 is an incredible chapter about relational pain—especially family pain. The pain turns destructive. Apart from the behind-the-scenes work of God and a young man named Joseph, who wouldn’t let his heart go south, the family would likely have disintegrated.
Life is Precious

This past Sunday I taught a lesson on the key doctrines of our church in the Membership Class. Each of the 7 major points is incredibly important and actually exciting! (Exciting doctrine?????)
One of the points grabbed me because it connected closely with some of my recent thoughts (and emails I received)—the value of human life. Here’s what’s in our statement, “All human beings are created in God’s own likeness and therefore have inherent value and equality before God. All human life is in the image of God and sacred.”

My office email had stacked up after Christmas because I was with family near Philadelphia. As I plowed through the pile, an email from Bernie, our Director of Operations, caught my attention:
