Kate Zlotnicki in Haiti
It's my privilege to introduce you to my dear friend Kate Zlotnicki, serving with One Mission Society in Cap Haitien, Haiti. As a long-time member of Grace Church, Kate enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School and serving on the Mission Board. She always had an interest in missions and had the opportunity to travel to Haiti on a short-term trip in 2002 after retiring as a teacher from the Millcreek School District. That trip changed her life's path and has impacted so many in Haiti.

Kate taught at Cowman International School for one week during February 2002 and again in January 2003. She was asked to stay longer, but wasn’t able to at the time. She returned to Haiti in March 2003 and taught at Cowman until June. This was when God called Kate to teach in Haiti. She fell in love with Haiti and the Haitian Christian’s passionate faith and trust in God. Kate returned to Haiti in September 2003 and has been teaching at Cowman ever since.

Kate has also teaches English as a Second Language to adult students after her work day at Cowman. The adult English classes are inspiring for Kate, as the adults vary in age and occupations. Since the students are choosing to take her classes, they are self-motivated and enjoy learning. It is not uncommon to find her working with one of her adult students on Saturdays as well.

Both Cowman School and the English classes use Christian-based curriculum. Since the Haitian culture is very musical, Kate incorporates Christian music into her lessons. She loves that she is able to combine her love of teaching and her love for the Lord to reach her 2nd graders at Cowman and her adult students. She is able to openly talk about her faith and salvation. Not all of her students, especially adult students, are Christians, so this is an exciting way to reach people for Christ! She has prayed with several students over the years as they accept Christ as their Savior.

During Kate’s evenings, when not catching up on school work, she loves a friendly game of Scrabble or Rummicube, but don’t expect yourself to come out as victor because Kate is strong competition with her spelling and wit. She also enjoys calling to catch up with her sons and grandchildren back in the States.

Kate has asked that we pray for strength, patience, and compassion for her students. She would love to see the eyes and hearts of her non-Christian students to be open to Christ’s love and grace.
